Program Overview
The Renew America’s Nonprofits – Rocky Mountain Region (RAN-RM) team is lead by the University of Colorado, with reputable education and research programs in building energy efficiency and sustainability. This program is pursuing an optimized, scalable, and sustainable model to retrofit nonprofit facilities. The model is based on a rigorous and gradual evaluation approach to systematically select suitable facilities and optimally impact energy efficiency measures.
How We Do It
Phases to Success
Planning & Recruitment
Beginning with broad outreach, we meticulously gather facility data, setting the stage for transformation.
Technical Assistance & Review
Through detailed utility data review and comprehensive audits, we pinpoint the optimal energy efficiency measures for each facility.
Retrofit Project Execution
Selected nonprofits receive hands-on support to bring their energy efficiency projects to life, with expert scheduling and subcontractor selection.
Outcome Evaluation & Reporting
Post-implementation, rigorous analysis will verify the real-world impact of each project, ensuring our goals are met.

Our Program Highlights
Nonprofits Upgraded Annually
Annually facilitating energy efficiency upgrades for up to 36 nonprofit facilities.
Energy Reduction Goal
Committing to at least 25% annual reduction in energy use.
Community Outreach and Inclusion
Targeting 200 facilities for upgrades, ensuring 25% serve disadvantaged communities, supporting broader inclusion under the Justice 40 initiative.
Technical Assistance and Training
Providing comprehensive technical assistance and training to all participants, aiming to significantly reduce their energy usage, costs, and carbon footprint.
Educational Programs
Offering two types of training programs focused on maintaining energy-efficient buildings and equipping the next generation of professionals in energy efficiency.
Who We Are
The RAN-RM Team
The Renew America’s Nonprofits – Rocky Mountain Region (RAN-RM) project team is led by the University of Colorado Boulder (CU), serving as the Prime recipient. The CU team comprises diverse and experienced partners including a building energy technologies college program, associations managing large portfolios of nonprofit buildings, professionals with expertise in retrofit projects, technical assistance from manufacturers of energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, utilities with energy efficiency incentives, and cities with access to nonprofit buildings and funding opportunities.
