Examine the organizational structure to ensure it supports efficient decision-making and project implementation. Additionally, analyze the financial health of your nonprofit to ascertain its capability to sustain long-term energy improvement projects.

Understand Building Energy Usage
Calculate the current energy consumption of your building and compare it against ASHRAE standards and similar buildings. This assessment will provide a comprehensive understanding of how you building utilizes energy to maintain a health and comfortable environment.
Identify Energy Saving Retrofits
Generate a comprehensive list of energy saving retrofits that can improve your buildings energy usage. This evaluation will provide list of retrofits categorized as Low/No Cost Retrofits and Captial Retrofits that can be implemented you improve your energy efficiency based on your budget. Potential impact towards energy savings for each retrofit will also be included as part of this analysis.
Potential Cost Savings
Identify potential savings in terms of reduction in energy cost, initial investments, and rate of return on investment. The assessment will include initial cost of installing suggested retrofits and the rate of return on the investment. Additionally, the assessment will also provide the total potential cost of energy saving for the building.

DOE Pre-approval Criteria for Receiving Retrofit Funds
If your organization is selected to receive retrofit funds, we’ll work with you to compile the following information:
- Submit proof of 501c3 status.
- Provide the SAM.gov registration number - use name of organization for registered 501c3. Check your organization is registered at SAM.gov, which is necessary for eligibility to receive federal grants. Go to SAM.gov and ensure you have access to your 12-digit Unique Entity ID. This registration ensures your nonprofit’s legitimacy and operational status, aiding in the smooth processing of grant applications.
- Submit a proof of building ownership.
- Submit a retrofit project summary (RPS), to summarize nonprofit priorities, building energy audit results, and retrofit budget details.
- Submit information on whether the building has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places or if known if the building is eligible for such designation and pictures of building.
- Provide a certification that the building is not located in 100-year floodplain or other hazard zones.
- Confirm that recommended retrofit projects are within the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) Statement of Work. Otherwise, an Environmental Questionnaire (EQ-1) should be submitted to DOE for final determination describing any physical modifications and ground-disturbing activities as required by NEPA.
- Ensure selected laborers, contractors, and subcontractors meet Davis-Bacon Act Compliance.
- Check that all the specified equipment to be installed comply with Build America Buy America (BABA) requirements.
